The essence of hotel management education at Shannon College is balancing business and management education with a thorough grounding in all practical aspects of the hotel industry. Overall, Year 1 students have nearly 30 contact hours of lecturing each week; over half of which is in practical training. The students rotate between five practical groups; culinary, food science, restaurant service, accommodation services and information technology; spending two weeks in each before rotating to the next. With our training kitchen and training restaurant, students develop attention to detail to match the work standards found in the world’s top hotels.
Students earn academic credits for their work placements which are a compulsary element of the degree courses. Shannon College’s Placement Manager administers and monitors the work placement process. Partner hotel companies visit Shannon College to meet and interview students throughout the academic year.
