Education in Switzerland is well-known for its high reputation all around the world. The possibility to learn various languages is the factor that makes studying in Switzerland especially prestigious.
In Switzerland children are obliged to go to school for 9 years. 4-6 years they study in elementary school and other 3-5 years they study in high school. Those students, who wish to continue their studies in a university, have to study 4 further years in a high-school-like institution. After graduation pupils are awarded with graduation certificate and they are offered a possibility to register themselves to universities or vocational schools without taking any exams.
Higher education in Switzerland can be acquired either in a university or vocational school. Study period in a high school usually lasts from 3 to 4 years. At present there are 12 public and several private universities.
Most popular courses among foreign students are for instance banking; tourism, culinary and hospitality management. Those courses are highly qualified and very prestigious in Switzerland and, therefore, diplomas received there are highly recognised worldwide.
